Kashmir is not a part of India but a separate country, according to the education department of Bihar. A question paper for a class 7 exam, attempted by students across all government schools in the state, asks what are the people living in these five ‘countries’ callled – China, Nepal, England, Kashmir and India.
According to a Times Of India report, the exams, which are conducted under the central government’s ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’, are overseen by the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC) which is a part of the state’s education department.
The incident was pointed out by a student from Vaishali district of the state. Vaishali district education officer told Times of India that she was on leave and will look into the matter.
However, the state programme officer of BEPC, Prem Chandra, told Times Of India that it was a printing error. He said the incident was very embarrassing.
